LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were certainly unhappy with their exit last season. While the 21-time All-Star is gearing up for another strong run, rumors have been swirling around him this offseason.
The Lakers acquired Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks earlier this year, and they want to build a super team. It’s hard to imagine the team parting ways with James. Yet, there’s no shortage of rumors, and the recent one is about the Lakers star reuniting with his former championship teammates.
Recently, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon touched upon Lebron James’ possibility of joining the Dallas Mavericks.
“Is there a deal to be made, a trade from the Mavericks to get Lebron? All the Mavericks had to do is completely gut the rotation. You’re giving up three or four rotation players for a potentially ring-chasing retirement tour, that doesn’t make sense for Dallas. It doesn’t make sense for LeBron, because he has a no-trade clause,” MacMahon said.

MacMahon also believes it’s hard for the Lakers to bring in his former teammates. If Lebron is traded to the Mavericks, he will reunite with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. However, the chances of it happening seem pretty slim for now. According to MacMahon, there is a catch: The Mavericks will only be interested in James in a buyout situation.

Despite his age, James continues to play basketball like he’s at his peak. It’s clear that a number of teams have emerged as favorite targets for the Lakers star. However, they are all still rumors. At the same time, it’s hard to dismiss the fact that he could be traded.
As ESPN’s Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst put it, nothing is impossible in the NBA. Bontemps and Windhorst referred to Luka Doncic’s trade as an example.
“It’s one of the biggest topics of conversation around the league. The concept of a trade is not impossible – nothing is impossible in the NBA after the Doncic trade – but it is unlikely due to LeBron James’ large salary and his no-trade clause. There were a few inquiries from eyebrow-raised teams, sources said, just to gauge whether this was something or nothing. For now, there is no action. But it is surely being monitored,” Bontemps and Windhorst wrote via ESPN.
LeBron James has stayed silent for now, and the Lakers have not made any progress. Fans would love to see a reunion with his former Championship teammates.
