Basketball’s GOAT debate constantly links LeBron James and Michael Jordan. Despite their shared legacy, LeBron recently revealed that he and Jordan have no real relationship at the moment.
LeBron spoke openly on The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN, admitting that he and Jordan don’t communicate. He attributed the lack of interaction to his ongoing playing career, suggesting that MJ’s famously competitive nature plays a role. However, he remains optimistic about connecting with Jordan after retirement.
LeBron On His Relationship With Jordan

LeBron didn’t hold back when discussing his relationship with Jordan. “Me and Michael? We’re in a good spot. We don’t talk. Because I’m still playing, I’m still focused on my craft right now,” he said. He hopes their dynamic shifts once he steps away from the game. “I would hope so,” he added when asked if he believes they’ll develop a better relationship post-retirement.
LeBron compared his situation with Jordan to his past interactions with the late Kobe Bryant. Before playing together in the Olympics, he and Kobe had little personal contact. “We had a great relationship there. But it was always competitive between us,” LeBron said. “Until I became a Laker and he retired, that’s when our relationship became really good.”

Jordan’s ultra-competitive nature may explain his distance. “MJ, we all know, is one of the most ruthless competitors there is,” LeBron pointed out. “Until I’m done, and he doesn’t have to look at me running up and down wearing number 23, and every time my name is mentioned, it’s mentioned with his- he’s like, ‘I don’t want to f**n talk to you.’”

The GOAT debate will continue for years, but fans would love to see these two NBA legends sit down and reflect on their shared legacy. For now, though, LeBron James must wait until retirement to see if that moment ever comes.
