LeBron James confirmed his injured knee is improving. He offers a hopeful update as he recovers from an MCL sprain suffered during the Lakers’ season-ending playoff loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves. While his contract decision is pending, the 39-year-old all-star prioritizes rehabilitation.
James reportedly suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain during Game 5, though he has not confirmed the severity publicly. On the “Mind the Game” podcast with Steve Nash, the four-time MVP offered a brief but optimistic update, stating, “Last time we spoke…Yeah, it’s getting better.”
Lebron James Weighs NBA Future For The Decades

James just completed his 22nd NBA season, averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game, and still playing at an elite level despite his age. He is prioritizing his recovery from injury as a significant odd decision approach. He has to decide whether to stick with his current deal, sign an extension, or explore free agency. After the Lakers were eliminated, James acknowledged his indecision about what comes next, adding, “I got a lot to think about myself. So I don’t know what the roster will look like. I don’t know where I stand right now.”
Despite speculations surrounding his next move, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst noted on the Dan Patrick show that James wants to stay with his current team. “Unless the Lakers did something to him to change the way he feels about them, which is not their MO, I don’t see that happening.”, Windhorst said. As the Lakers are looking at Luka Doncic, who can sign a $229 million extension soon, James shows some uncertainty, saying, “It’s a business.” So you don’t know what the roster will look like next year besides the guys locked into contracts. (Expletive), I’ve got a lot to think about myself. So I don’t know what the roster will look like. I don’t know where I stand right now.”
For now, James continues to recover and think about his future. He might retire or try for another title. “I’ll sit down with my family and have a conversation with myself on how long I want to continue to play. I don’t know the answer to that right now, to be honest. So we’ll see,” said James.
