LeBron James enjoyed an incredible four seasons with the Miami Heat, crafting many unforgettable moments that cemented his legacy in the sport. One of the most iconic stories from his time in Miami involves team president Pat Riley, who humorously took away LeBron’s chocolate chip cookies on a team flight.
James recently appeared on the Pat McAfee Show to discuss various topics related to the league, including his ongoing feud with Stephen A. Smith. During the conversation, he revealed the surprising truth behind Riley’s infamous cookie ban, which caused tensions during the Heat’s championship era.
“It’s a true story. It wasn’t like Riles was on the plane and I was about to get my cookies and Riles snatched ’em out my hand. The plane that we were getting on, the ladies on the plane were making chocolate chip cookies….one flight I got on and I looked at ’em and they looked at me and I’m like, ‘That look didn’t look familiar.’
And they were like, ‘No. We’re not allowed. No more cookies on these flights.’ And we all know where it came from. I looked at D. Wade. D. Wade looked at me. Without even saying it, he was like ‘F—— Riles has done it again.'” James said.
James acknowledged that the story is true but argued that various versions circulating are significantly different, distorting the original events and embellishing details far beyond what occurred.
