The Los Angeles Lakers are still looking to fill their center position. They secured talents like DeAndre Ayton and re-signed Jaxson Hayes. Now, their focus shifts to Maxi Kleber, who came over in the Luka Doncic trade back in February.
Kleber brings shooting and defensive skills that neither Ayton nor Hayes consistently offers. He played 45 games and shot 38.6% from 3-point range. He makes a valuable option in spacing-focused lineups. Though he missed most of the season after foot surgery, the Lakers still see his worth for the upcoming season.
According to Dan Woike of The Athletic, the team believes in Klber’s ability as a stretch big. He can give the center rotation a new direction.” He’s recovering well from foot surgery last Jan, ” Woike also wrote. If healthy, he can contribute to the Los Angeles Lakers’ lineup and become a valuable asset.
However, the Lakers are reportedly showing interest in AI Horford, which can complicate Kleber’s deal. If Horford agrees to make a deal, Kleber could be included in the trade. For now, the Lakers seem to give him a chance to prove himself in depth.

“It’s not a 40-year-old LeBron James… It’s Luka. Luka ,and it’s WME,” Perkins says. “You don’t think Luka is having a say in what’s going on in the Lakers front office right now? You’re crazy as hell.”
As Doncic is expected to extend his contract in August, the Los Angeles Lakers are now focusing on youth and the future aspects of the team. The moves highly indicate that they are rebuilding a roster that can lead to the end of James’ legacy and start a fresh journey ahead.
