The Los Angeles Lakers showcased remarkable talent throughout the 2024-25 NBA season. A pivotal moment came mid-season when they executed a high-profile trade, bringing Luka Doncic on board from the Dallas Mavericks. Despite these aggressive moves, however, the team’s journey faltered against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening round of the playoffs, leaving fans and analysts puzzled.
In light of this setback, the Lakers are now redirecting their efforts to revamp their roster, aiming for a more formidable presence next season. Interestingly, recent reports have surfaced indicating that the organisation is considering re-signing a controversial young centre, which could prove beneficial in a relatively sparse free-agent market.
“The Lakers likely will try to do better here, and Hayes will likely try to find a place where he’s more appreciated, but I’m not sure we should rule out a reunion. Between L.A.’s early Bird rights on Hayes and the limited money on the market for supplemental centers like him, these two may find that continuing their uncomfortable marriage remains better than the alternative,” John Hollinger of The Athletic wrote in his recent reports.
Lakers center, Jaxson Hayes, could command 5.2 million on the market.

According to Hollinger, the Lakers might consider re-signing Hayes to a financially sensible agreement. Notably, Hayes recorded averages of 6.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.9 blocks over 19.5 minutes in 56 games during the 2024-25 regular season.

I was talking about L.A., I want to go to Arkansas too.’ But yeah, L.A. feels like home to me… I want to win a championship more than anything. Especially with that organization.
