A blockbuster trade proposal has the Memphis Grizzlies shaking up their core by trading superstar Ja Morant to the Miami Heat, who are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2024-25 season of their own.
Ja Morant’s availability has been a problem for Memphis, due to his multiple suspensions and concerning injury history. He missed 21 games in 2022-23, played just nine contests in 2023-24 before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery and missed 30 more games this season.
The Grizzlies were swept by the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the postseason, marking the third straight year they failed to win a playoff series. A roster shake-up feels inevitable for Memphis, and they’d undoubtedly score a massive return for Morant.
Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley proposed a massive trade idea that has Memphis trading Ja Morant and Jay Huff to Miami in exchange for Duncan Robinson, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jović, Kyle Anderson and first-round picks in 2025, 2029 and 2031:
“The Grizzlies, who’ve won a single playoff series during Morant’s six seasons in Memphis, might want to try something new and see what happens if they try tailoring the roster around Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane.
This deal would deliver plug-and-play contributors in Robinson and Anderson (who previously spent four seasons in Memphis), prospects with room to grow in Jović and Jaquez and three firsts to keep or use in future trades.”
The Jimmy Butler-led Heat had a special run with Eastern Conference titles (2020 and 2023) and three final four appearances (2020, 2022 and 2023), but the franchise star was dealt to the Golden State Warriors after his relationship with the organization soured.
Miami needs a new difference-maker if it wants to re-emerge as a title contender in the wide-open Eastern Conference, and Ja Morant would certainly fit the bill.

Ja Morant Is The Ideal Trade Target For Miami

The Heat have enough pieces (Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Davion Mitchell) to be a playoff contender. But with the East up for grabs next year, why shouldn’t Pat Riley go all-in for a superstar like Morant?
Miami has enough trade assets to make the deal work. A group of Morant, Adebayo, Herro, Mitchell and Andrew Wiggins would make the Heat legitimate title contenders, both in the short and long term.
