The 1990s era of the NBA is inseparable from the legacy of Michael Jordan. As the driving force behind the Chicago Bulls’ dominance, Jordan helped turn basketball into a global phenomenon. His leadership delivered six NBA championships to the Bulls, including two separate three-peats from 1991 to 1991–1993 and 1996 to 1998.
In a recent sit-down interview with longtime broadcaster Michael Wilbon, Jordan opened up about his legendary career and the dynasty he helped build in Chicago. During their discussion, Jordan was asked whether he believed more championships could have been in reach. Jordan expressed that the Bulls would have had a real shot at a seventh championship in 1999 had the team stayed intact.
“I do believe we could’ve won 7. We’ll never know, but it’s great for thinking, conversation, and debating. Competitive nature would’ve been. Let’s get to 8 until somebody beats us. Till’ I actually lose in the Finals,” Jordan said.

Though Jordan retired in 1999 with the Bulls, his love for the game eventually brought him back to the court. He returned for two seasons with the Washington Wizards from 2001 to 2003. However, while his time in Washington showcased his enduring skills, it never reached the same heights as his years with the Bulls.

This marks a significant moment not only for fans of Jordan but also for the network itself. NBC hasn’t aired an NBA game since 2002. For longtime fans, the announcement feels like a full-circle moment.
NBC and Jordan once ruled the NBA landscape in the 1990s. Now, more than two decades later, the two are reuniting to bring that magic to a new generation of basketball fans.
