The debate for the best NBA player in the league’s history has come down to Michael Jordan and LeBron James. While many argue for the current star, others are still adamant that Jordan will not be passed over.
Since his retirement, Jordan has not stayed put. He has become one of the most successful businessmen in the world and has created an empire worth over $3.5 billion, which could easily be more.
However, he could now see a threat to that $3.5 billion total as his sales took a massive hit in 2024. Well, not precisely… as Nike generally took a hit in 2024, whereas Jordan still netted a whopping $260 million from his 1985 collab Air Jordan alone.
However, Nike’s drop in sales, which occurred late last year, could still affect the former NBA champ. A report by Reuters claims that the sports apparel giant took an 11 percent hit to their store traffic and a 35 percent hit to their app downloads.

What Will Happen With Michael Jordan’s Empire?

Nike’s third-quarter profits are expected to take a massive hit of over $1 billion, going from $12.44 billion in 2023 to $11.01 in 2024. Nike may be unhappy with these statistics, which may affect Jordan.

While it is possible that they could affect the former Chicago Bulls star, odds are that they won’t since Jordan Brand accounted for $7 billion in sales in 2024, which was 7 percent of the sports apparel company’s total income for the year.
After everything is said and done, it may be a scary situation for the company that their sales fell in the third quarter of the year, but they remain a top competitor. With Michael Jordan on their side, there is no doubt they can figure out how to change it.
