The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Oklahoma City Thunder will play their third match of the Western Conference finals at Target Center on Saturday, May 24.
Following a commanding lead at the beginning of the final round series with a 114-88 win, the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder secured another significant 118-103 victory in the recent knockdown against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Supported by MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 38 points and Jalen Williams’ 26 points and 10 rebounds, they are leading the series 2-0. However, Chet Holmgren scored 22, while the Thunder’s defense, complemented by Lu Dort and Williams, held Minnesota to 41.4% shooting.
On the other hand, the sixth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves are finding it tough to maintain their solid semi-final 4-1 winning momentum in the ongoing finals. Anthony Edwards’ 32 points on 12-of-26 shots and Jaden McDaniels’ 22 were not enough to secure the win for them. Nickeil Alexander-Walker had 17 points, but the team struggled against the Thunder’s strong defense.

The upcoming showdown promises to be significant as the series shifts to Minneapolis. The Thunder will look to maintain momentum behind MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and a well-organized supporting cast. The Timberwolves will focus on capitalizing on their opponent’s home-court advantage and bouncing back with improved ability. They will mostly rely on Anthony Edwards’ elite performance. However, defensive adjustments and early energy could play a key role for Minnesota. With both teams highly competitive, game three will be a highly contested matchup.
