The current conflict between Stephen A. Smith and LeBron James has stunned the NBA community. Over the last several days, their animosity has taken a terrible turn, and league commissioner Adam Silver finally voiced his own opinions.
Adam Silver elaborated on the main problem, which is media coverage overall. But he didn’t really take sides in this epic battle. Adam agrees with LeBron that there is room for improvement in how the game is covered.
Silver stated, “My phone was in front of me, and I received several texts that said ‘Are you watching this?’ And I said, ‘What’s this?’ And they said Stephen A., so I understand, and I saw some of the headlines that came out of this. Joe [Dumars] was saying to the team representatives that we’re a particular sport in which that kind of debate seems to be part of the DNA of this league.”
Silver continued: "When it becomes very personal between a media member and a player, it's not something I want to see as the commissioner of this league." https://t.co/RylABJmNSm

Silver on the recent war of words between you know who: “Sometimes it seems that in other sports that I'm a fan of, and when I watch the coverage, particularly around the games, it seems to be more celebratory.”

He further added, “I’m jealous sometimes that it seems like in other sports it seems to be more celebratory than it is in the NBA… Sometimes it’s wonderful to see so much interest in our sport, but at other times, I cringe at the coverage. When it becomes very personal between a media member and a player, it’s not something I want to see. But we’d like the focus to stay on their play on the floor. When it becomes very personal between a media member and a player, it’s not something I want to see.”
Adam Silver is doing his bit by giving his fans the correct message. In the future, Silver hopes to see more enthusiastic and upbeat views of the game that contribute to enthusiasm rather than animosity.

Adam Silver Planning Europe League Alongside Adding New Expansion Teams

There have been more discussions regarding possible expansion clubs in the future as the NBA keeps changing. However, Brian Windhorst of ESPN claims that the league is more interested in expanding into Europe than acquiring franchises in the US market. Adam Silver has also mentioned this.
Windhorst said on ESPN, “This is not putting NBA teams in Europe. This would be creating a league that is run by the NBA in Europe. For decades, the European leagues have produced great players like Jokic and Doncic, but it’s underachieved economically. What the NBA sees is an opportunity to move into places like London, Paris, or Berlin to potentially create a league. It’s not a done deal, the owners have not signed off on it yet. But I will say that when the NBA Commissioner wants something to happen. And very clearly he wants it to happen, it probably will happen. Las Vegas and Seattle are still not on the table. They’re more focused on creating a league in Europe than expanding.”

Windhorst claims that the league is looking to expand its European market. Considering the downturn in TV ratings, they see a chance to reach a new audience abroad. The G-League and WNBA are probably comparable to the NBA’s European league.
