Bronny James’ debut season with the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t begin as many had hoped. As the highly anticipated son of NBA legend LeBron James, expectations were immense from the moment he was drafted. However, Bronny faced a difficult adjustment to the league and struggled to find his footing early on. His challenges ultimately led head coach JJ Redick to assign him to the G-League for additional development.
But a recent update from a Western Conference executive has offered a surprising and optimistic outlook for the young guard’s future with the team. The executive suggested that while Bronny’s development was slow to start, significant improvement was evident over the course of the year.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt that’s their plan. I know the guy gets a lot of grief because of who his dad is, but we’ve seen a lot of tape on (Bronny), and the fact is, he was a lot better player in April than he was in October and definitely in July,” the executive said.

Statistically, Bronny’s first year in the NBA was modest. He appeared in only 27 regular-season games, averaging 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. Despite those numbers, he showed flashes of promise.
Bronny’s standout performance came in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks, where he erupted for 17 points. It was his first double-digit scoring night in the league and a glimpse of the player he could become.

The same executive suggested that Bronny James’ journey is just beginning. He believes that if Bronny can carry that momentum into next season, he will earn meaningful playing time.
“If he can show that wasn’t a fluke, he is going to start getting 10, 15 minutes a night because the team is going to feel like they can trust him. I think he is going to do all that. He is going to be a regular for them next year,” the executive added.
Bronny also found opportunities for growth with the South Bay Lakers in the G-League, where he made an even louder statement. He delivered a career-high 39-point performance in a 122-118 win over Santa Cruz. Bronny’s path may be different from other rookies, but the best may still be to come.
