The New York Knicks reached the conference finals for the first time in over 20 years. For Karl-Anthony Towns, the moment holds special meaning, as he made it to the finals in his very first season with the Knicks following his offseason trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Following the win, Towns joined the postgame show to express his appreciation for the city and its basketball culture. But his attempt to channel the New York spirit by adopting a local accent didn’t quite land as expected.
“You know, to all my brothers that were with me at Rucker Park, all the brothers that were with me in all those… games and Tri-State, especially in New York, you know, I dedicate this to them,” Towns said with a noticeable and somewhat awkward twist to his voice.

NBA fans wasted no time in reacting online, as the clip of Towns’ interview quickly made the rounds. Many couldn’t help but laugh at what they perceived as a forced accent.
“Shit didn’t even sound right,” one fan wrote bluntly.
