Basketball fans came together to offer prayers and other messages of support for Boston Celtics star big man Kristaps Porzingis after he announced an update on his health.
Taking to X/Twitter on Monday night, Kristaps Porzingis announced that he’s dealing with a “viral illness” that has yet to be identified. Porzingis said he’s “getting better”, thanked fans for their support and said he hopes to make “a healthy return soon.”
Porzingis was ruled out of Monday’s home game against the Utah Jazz with an illness. Porzingis, who missed the previous five games as well, has been limited to 32 games thus far in 2024-25.

Porzingis missed the first month of the Celtics’ championship defense recovering from offseason surgery on his ankle. Various injuries have kept him out of action for half the season thus far, but he’s averaged 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 32 contests.
In the 2023 offseason, Boston acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards in a three-team trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. The move was considered a giant risk since Boston was giving away fan favorite and defensive stalwart Marcus Smart, but Porzingis would go on to play a pivotal role in helping Boston win its first NBA title in 16 years.
Kristaps Porzingis’ Celtics Are Essentially Locked In As The No. 2 Seed In East
The Celtics can rest their players accordingly over the final weeks of the regular season, as they’re pretty much locked in as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Cleveland Cavaliers entered Monday with an eight-game lead on Boston for the No. 1 seed in the East, but the defending champions had a 5.5 game lead on the New York Knicks for the second seed.
