The very sight of the photo had the Philadelphia 76ers legend in awe of what was in front of him.
‘Damn,’ Iverson said as he received the small poster from a young fan. ‘Whose is this? It’s yours?
‘You got another for me?’ The 46-year-old Iverson asked. ‘I need one of these.’
After staring at the picture, Iverson would eventually autograph it and promptly give some advice to the kid about always listening to his parents.
Iverson and Kobe both came out of the 1996 draft class and had many battles between the 76ers and Lakers over the years. In 2001, the two went head-to-head in the NBA Finals where the 76ers shocked the world by defeating the Lakers at Staples Cenmter in Game 1. Iverson dropped 48 points and delivered a signature moment in clutch time when he hit a step back jumped over Tyronne Lue and then stepped over him.
It never got that good again as the Lakers went on to win the next four games, despite being out-shot and out-rebounded in the series.
