The Pelicans ended the regular season with just 21 wins. The team’s performance reflected the absence of a reliable star presence, which only strengthened management’s decision to consider reshaping the entire squad.

Zion posted solid numbers when he was on the floor, averaging 24.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in just 30 games. However, his frequent absences were a significant factor in the Pelicans’ evaluation process.
His season was cut short due to a lower backbone contusion. While his talent remains undeniable, the concern lies in whether he can consistently stay healthy and contribute over the course of a full season.

Before the Pelicans could finalize any decision regarding Zion’s future with the team, troubling news emerged. On Friday, a lawsuit was filed accusing Williamson of raping and physically abusing a woman. In response to the lawsuit, Williamson’s attorneys released a strongly worded statement.
“We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and we unequivocally deny them. The allegations contained in the complaint are categorically false and reckless. This is the plaintiff’s third set of attorneys. This appears to be an attempt to exploit a professional athlete driven by a financial motive rather than any legitimate grievance,” the statement read.
According to the court filings, Zion is accused of committing two separate instances of rape. Whether these charges will proceed to a courtroom trial or be resolved outside of court remains unclear at this point. Regardless of the outcome, the legal proceedings add more complexity to Williamson’s future in the NBA and with the Pelicans.
