The New York Knicks are currently conducting a search for their next head coach. The team is having a tough time following the recent firing of Tom Thibodeau on June 3.
The team’s initial attempts to interview current head coaches from other NBA teams were met with rejection from five different teams. As a result, the Knicks have shifted to consider former NBA coaches.
According to Shams Charania, the Knicks have scheduled meetings with two of the prominent ex-coaches. They’ll meet former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins, and Mike Brown, who previously coached the Sacramento Kings, for next week.

Both coaches were surprisingly let go during the current NBA season despite leading their teams to playoff appearances, albeit with limited success in the postseason. The Knicks are aiming to find a candidate who can lead them to their first NBA championship since 1973.
Thibodeau took over the Knicks in 2020 after a prolonged period of losing. But, was credited with revitalizing the team and leading them to consecutive 50-win seasons. The challenge for Thibodeau’s successor will be to build upon his achievements and push the franchise further.

Charles Barkley recently criticized the Knicks’ coaching search strategy, making light of the situation with a joke about Indiana Pacers HC Rick Carlisle.
“I know we got a long way to go, but if Rick [Carlisle] were to win, the only bad thing about it is the Knicks asked for permission to talk to him. Just being serious. I’m not laughing New York,” he said.
