NBA fans are having difficulty believing who the New York Knicks are targeting for their head coaching vacancy following their firing of Tom Thibodeau.
The Knicks fired Thibodeau following their exit from the playoffs earlier this month, despite making remarkable progress under him and despite the fact that he was the best head coach they’d had in a long, long time.
According to reports, the team has contacted South Carolina women’s head coach and former WNBA star Dawn Staley about the vacancy, and folks on social media can’t wrap their heads around it.
“I thought this was a Centel post,” a fan wrote in the comments.
“Had to double take to make sure I wasn’t getting Centel’d 🤣🤣🤣the knicks are not a serious organization,” said another.

“If you want to hire the first female Coach in the NBA, hire Becky Hammon. At least she has actual NBA coaching experience,” a user suggested.
“Hell naw. This was the plot of Eddie lmao,” wrote another.
The New York Knicks And Dawn Staley Could Be On The Brink Of History

Should the Knicks hire Dawn Staley, she would go down in history as the first female to be appointed to the position on an NBA team.
The team has also interviewed the likes of Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins, and Micah Nori, but throwing Stayley into the mix suggests they’re open to making the boldest coaching move in league history.
Staley, who recently signed a lucrative contract with South Carolina, has shown no indication of wanting to leave. However, the prospect of becoming the first-ever female NBA head coach might be too attractive to pass up.
