Kevin Durant’s future with the Phoenix Suns has been a hot topic as speculation has arisen that this season could be his last in the desert. Multiple teams, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and Dallas Mavericks, have been floated as potential landing spots.
However, sports analyst Nick Wright recently introduced a surprising new contender. During Tuesday’s episode of FS1’s First Things First, Wright revealed that he had heard whispers of Durant possibly joining the Boston Celtics.
“Two totally unrelated people, both of whom have reputations for knowing things that other people don’t know, have said to me, ‘Watch out for Durant in Boston. I don’t know even the pieces that would work,” Wright said.

The possibility of Durant joining the Celtics is purely speculative. But, Wright shared that such a move would draw comparisons to his controversial decision to join the Golden State Warriors in 2016.
“It feels a lot like what Durant got killed for with [joining] Golden State before. So it doesn’t make sense, but I’ve heard that twice now,” he added.

The Celtics are already one of the NBA’s elite teams. They boast a 53-19 record and hold the second seed in the Eastern Conference. With Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s dominance, Boston is already a legitimate title contender. Adding Kevin Durant, who is averaging 26.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game this season, would undoubtedly elevate them even further.
However, any trade for Durant would likely require the Celtics to part with key assets. While it’s unclear what a potential deal could look like, Boston would be willing to shake up their core for the 35-year-old superstar.
However, still we can say the league is unpredictable. Recently, the Dallas Mavericks traded their young star Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. Hence, whether Boston emerges as a serious trade destination for Durant remains to be seen.
