Nikola Jokic’s quest to lead the Denver Nuggets to championships this season stopped after the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated them in Game 7 of the conference semifinals. With the NBA season now behind him, the two-time MVP has enough time to turn his attention to the international stage.
After the loss, Jokic was asked about his potential participation in the EuroBasket tournament, scheduled from August 27 to September 14, where he would represent his home country of Serbia. In the post-game press conference, Jokic said he’s unsure whether he will participate in this summer’s FIBA EuroBasket.
“I think the Olympics made me even better. Playing for your country with different rules and different players, it made me better. I need to decide. There is a EuroBasket,” Joker said.

“I need to talk with the coaches and some of the main players, let’s say like that. And we will see. But for now, for the next couple of days, there will be a lot of beer, probably,” he added.

“It’s hard for the guys to step up, especially in the playoffs against two really good teams, the Clippers and OKC. We can’t ask anybody that played 20 or 30 games to jump in and expect him to be good. It definitely seems like the teams that have longer rotations, longer benches are the teams that are winning,” Jokic said.
Since leading the Nuggets to their first NBA championship, Jokic has now fallen short of returning to the Conference Finals in consecutive years. Despite keeping the core of the championship team intact, Denver has struggled to repeat their previous magic. The Denver team urgently needs to consider building a deeper and more reliable roster.
