The Boston Celtics’ championship hopes took a devastating blow last season, crashing out in the first round of the playoffs. Additionally, Jayson Tatum suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Medical experts estimate Tatum’s recovery could take anywhere from seven to fifteen months. That timeline suggests the Celtics may not see their franchise cornerstone back on the court until the 2025 playoffs or later. With his return uncertain, Boston is now bracing to open the new season without Tatum leading the charge.

Despite this setback, the Celtics wasted no time reshaping their roster. On the first day of the offseason, the team traded Jrue Holiday. Just one day later, they moved Kristaps Porzingis in a three-team deal. Meanwhile, reports emerged that Boston is actively considering a blockbuster trade involving Jaylen Brown.
If Brown is ultimately dealt, the Celtics could begin the upcoming season without Tatum, Brown, and Porzingis, their three veteran stars.
Boston Celtics’ Championship Window In Doubt Following Aggressive Offseason Changes

In exchange for Holiday and Porzingis, the Celtics received Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang. While talented, the duo doesn’t bring the same playoff pedigree or star power as the outgoing veterans in many fans’ eyes. Some fans already have to question whether Boston’s title window is now closing.

Still, some fans are already looking ahead to future seasons.
“Not for 25-26, 26-27 I can see it, but no Tatum no finals,” one fan predicted.

The Celtics ended the last regular season as the second seed in the Eastern Conference, only to fall in the opening round. With injuries, trades, and uncertainty clouding their future, Boston fans are left wondering if this is the start of a rebuild or just a temporary storm before another run.
