The Oklahoma City Thunder are on a run of their own this season.
Having secured the top spot in the WC for the second consecutive year, OKC have now won the conference finals.
With 68 wins, they have set a franchise record while surpassing achievements from both the Oklahoma City and Seattle Supersonics eras.
This impressive record ranks sixth in NBA history. Additionally, they also broke the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers’ long-standing record as they averaged a 12.9 point differential per game.
However, there’s another unique milestone within reach for the Thunder.
After the Thunder pulled off a Game 5 win, they made history by becoming the 4th team ever to hit a whopping 80 wins. It was achieved when you add up both the regular season and playoffs before even getting to the NBA Finals.
With a Game 5 win, Oklahoma City would become the 4th team in NBA history to reach 80 wins before the NBA Finals when combining regular season and playoffs, joining the Warriors ('15-'16) and Bulls ('95-'96 & '96-'97) 🤯

With this win, OKC joined the legendary company of the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors and the iconic Chicago Bulls teams from the 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 seasons.
Led by MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been outstanding this season, the Thunder started strong. They became the first team in history to win their opening seven games by a margin of ten points or more.
Despite potential challenges from the Pacers and the Knicks in the Finals, the Thunder seem poised for victory, thanks to their dominance throughout the season.
Oklahoma City Thunder On To Another NBA History

While the above feat looks unique, the Oklahoma City Thunder has another record to their name.
The Thunder made history by becoming the youngest NBA Finals team since the 1977 Portland Trail Blazers. After defeating the Wolves in five games, the Thunder’s roster averages an age of 24.7.
The oldest player on the team is Alex Caruso, who is 31 years old.

In comparison, the 1976-77 Blazers had an average age of 24.5 led by Bill Walton (24). Other notable Blazers from that squad included Lionel Hollins (23), Maurice Lucas (25), and Dave Twardzik (26), with the oldest player being Herb Gilliam (31).
The Blazers went on to win the NBA Finals against the Philadelphia 76ers, concluding the series 4-2, with Walton earning the Finals MVP award.
The upcoming 2024-25 NBA Finals will begin on June 5 in Oklahoma City, where the Thunder will face either the Indiana Pacers or the New York Knicks.
