“Nobody was that impressed by Shai. And I had just started working for The Athletic midway through Shai’s rookie year. I remember I would go to (almost) every single Clippers game. And I remember talking to one guy that works for the Clippers and him being like, ‘Yo, we think Shai is the next Penny Hardaway.’ And I remember being offended by that. I was like, ‘Are you out of your mind?’” Lambre said in the recent episode of the Zach Lowe Show.
Shai averaged 31.4 points, along with 5.2 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 1.8 steals each game this season. His stellar performance marked his first trip to the NBA Finals and the OKC Thunder’s long-awaited return since 2012.
