Paul George’s highly anticipated debut season with the Philadelphia 76ers didn’t go the way fans had hoped. After joining the Sixers in a move that was expected to bolster their playoff aspirations, George and the team fell far short of expectations, which brought a pile of criticism for Paul.
Amid the struggle, George recently made headlines with a candid reflection on the changing nature of defense in today’s NBA. He spoke about how the league’s offensive explosion has impacted defenders. The offense made it impossible for even elite defenders to consistently shut down top scorers. He also explained that defenders now have to settle for trying to make shots difficult.
“So, you know, our league—the days of stoppers, those are pretty much gone. The TAs [Tony Allen types], you know, even myself—I call myself a defender—there’s guys that I can’t do anything with. I just have to hope I’m there enough for this to be a tough shot for him. He might make the shot, but I did all I could to make it a tough possession for him. You just got to tip your hat,” George said.

Elite offense often wins out, no matter how hard defenders work. For George and the Sixers, the hope is that next season brings better results after this disappointing season.

After months of silence, Paul George is officially back behind the microphone. After taking a break from his popular show Podcast P back in February, he returned with a new episode this week. “The reason I took the hiatus was more so I wanted to get my body healthy. I wasn’t mentally there. Kinda just want to touch back with my fan base. It was important for us to kind of start this back up. Just give back to the people,” George said.
The return of Podcast P offers fans a chance to hear directly from George in his own words. While the season may not have ended as he hoped on the court, George is ready to use it to engage with his fans once again.
