LeBron James recently praised his fellow NBA superstar, Kevin Durant. While talking about Durant’s impeccable skills, James termed him the most complete scorer. Surely, with some great numbers to show for, Durant did have a long-lasting impact on the NBA realm. However, analyzing James’ point of view, Paul Pierce had quite a contrasting opinion to share.
Pierce recently appeared in an episode of ‘Speak’ on FS1. Reflecting on what James said, Pierce begged to differ. Instead, he pointed out that he was the best pure scorer in the NBA. Dissecting Durant’s play, Pierce stated that the former Suns’ star has a huge advantage due to his height. Standing at 7 feet tall, Durant was seldom bothered by the defense.
“I was probably the best pure scorer ever in the history of the NBA. I was pretty equipped when I think about it, I need to be in this conversation. I must have been one of the most equipped. … He talks about (Durant’s) efficiency. I shot more bad shots than Kevin, for sure. But Kevin, because he’s 7 feet, he can get his shot off on anybody. He don’t really see defense, you know what I’m saying?“ Pierce stated.

Surely, Pierce has been one of the prolific scorers in the NBA. However, he is quite far away from the top spot. Making the All-Star team 10 times, Pierce ranks 18th in the all-time scoring list. However, this was not the only word of appreciation that James had for Kevin Durant.

The 50-40-90 club has been among the most elite and prestigious lists in the NBA. To feature on the list, an athlete needs to shoot 50% from the field, 40% from three-pointers, and 90% from the free throws. Quite understandably, this seems like quite a challenging task. But Durant did it. Not once, but twice! And thus, LeBron James wasn’t shy about giving him his flowers.

“I mean all the detail that you’re talking about is you know when we talk about efficiency you know. The mental and physical game of being a 50/40/90 player and there’s only been a small select few guys to do this NBA history the the 9050 40 club or 50 40 90 however you want to break it down you’ve done it twice you’ve done it twice and it was actually 10 years apart from when you did it,” said James on ‘Mind the Game’ podcast.
Thus, with mutual respect on display, it remains to be seen whether LeBron James responds to Paul Pierce.
