Paul Pierce again sparked debate on LeBron James’s legacy, this time including Luka Doncic. On FS1’s Speak podcast, the Hall of Fame did not hold back and raised questions about the Los Angeles Lakers’ championship chances.
The Lakers were eliminated in five games against the Minnesota Timberwolves, even though they had a majestic 50-32 regular season record. They struggled in defensive zones, especially because James and Doncic exposed their flaws. James averaged 25.4 points, nine rebounds, and 5.6 assists in the series. Age became a little concerning factor, which underscores his fatigue, while Luka added a 28.2 points average, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists from his last season.
“These are your two best players and probably your two worst defenders,” Pierce said. “ I said that Luka is definitely a championship-caliber player. They held back, and that’s not knocking LeBron because he’s still productive at his age. He can no longer play heavy minutes and be the defender you need him to be for them to win a championship.“

“This is not Rob Pelinka just starting to look for a big. He’s been looking for one for over a year, which I appreciate,” he further added.
This is not the first time Pierce has commented on James’ era. His remarks ignite critical conversation about the Lakers’ future with their duo, James and Doncic, at the core. As the defensive struggle concerns the depth, the Lakers must work on their weakness and prove something bigger than they have planned.

LeBron James is a star in the basketball world, even at the age of 40. The All-Star player remains a key figure in the Lakers’ depth. After winning three titles with different franchises, he left no doubt about his greatness and basketball experience.
However, former Celtics star Paul Pierce believes Stephen Curry can surpass LeBron James’ legacy if he wins a fifth championship. “If Steph Curry wins the tournament, or one more championship, let’s say this year, gets the Finals MVP, we are going to have some very, very, very, very uncomfortable conversations. You know why? Because that’s going to mean, in the LeBron era, he would have won his fifth title,” Pierce added.
Both players played alongside and proved why people call them superstars. However, Pierce’s comments indicate a growing debate in today’s NBA. If Curry adds another title to his name, the conversation might shift significantly.
