As the NBA season draws to a close, not only the teams but also the athletes are busy exploring their options for the next season. Likewise, Bobby Portis is one name who has been heavily in the news. Recently, it seemed like Portis would be declining his option to explore the free agent market. However, a fresh report from an NBA insider has revealed some interesting details about Portis’ future with the Bucks.
Jim Owczarski from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently stated that Portis might opt in. While he, too, initially thought Portis would opt out, the recent update is surely quite significant. If the reports are to be believed, then Portis has a $13.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season.
“I wrote early on I thought Bobby would be a S&T candidate after an opt-out. But the more I’m hearing is he may be more likely to opt-in,” Owczarski wrote about Portis.

Now, such a deal would benefit the Bucks significantly. With his player option, the Bucks will have some flexibility in constructing a strong roster for the next season. Meanwhile, not only the Bucks, but the decision to opt in might also be intelligent for Portis to consider.
Bobby Portis Doing The Right Thing Opting In?

Bobby Portis might not have considered opting in. But his suspension for 25 games straight changed the scenario. While he missed so many games, Portis’ market value took quite a beating. Now, please make no mistake, teams would have still opted to pay him quite a lot of money. But those might not have been as lucrative a deal as Portis would have wanted.

After all, at 30 years old, the NBA veteran will be looking to land one last major deal. And what’s more helpful for Portis to build up his market value once again than to feature in the Bucks’ starting lineup? With the team looking for a fresh starting 5, Portis will likely make the cut if he stays. Thus, with things looking quite interesting, what happens next remains to be seen.
