Reports indicate that the Boston Celtics have jumped into offseason trade talks with full force, making multiple players available except for Jayson Tatum. The franchise wasted no time once the offseason officially began.
The Celtics kicked things off by trading veteran guard Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers. In return, Boston acquired young guard Anfernee Simons. As part of the deal, the Celtics also received two future second-round picks, one from the New York Knicks in 2030 and another from the Blazers in 2031.

Interestingly, this isn’t Jrue Holiday’s first time being associated with Portland. He was initially sent to the Blazers by the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a blockbuster trade in 2023. However, before he could even suit up for a single game, Portland flipped him to Boston just days later. His second stint with the Blazers now seems more likely to be permanent.
Portland Plans To Keep Jrue Holiday After Acquiring Him From Boston

Jrue Holiday still has three years remaining on his four-year, $134 million contract extension he signed with the Celtics last year. NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that, despite previous speculation, the Blazers plan to hold onto Holiday.
“There was interest in Jrue Holiday from Sacramento, Dallas and others. The plan, for now, is definitely for Portland to keep the veteran point guard, sources say, as the Blazers look to compete in the Western Conference. I’ve seen some wondering whether or not POR would flip him,” Fischer reported.

Holiday played two seasons in Boston with mixed results. In his first year, he was instrumental in helping the Celtics capture an NBA championship. However, his second year ended in disappointment as Boston was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
