The NBA finals are happening, with the Indiana Pacers playing the Oklahoma City Thunder. But even now, the teams are thinking about who they will try to sign when players become free agents. One big name jumped into the conversation, the Pacers’ center, Myles Turner. The player is expected to remain with the team that drafted him a decade ago, but now, the Detroit Pistons might try to sign him.
Turner played his whole 10-year career with the Pacers, and currently averages 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game during this regular season. His impact is evident, and he stands to command a hefty contract this offseason. League executives project his new deal to land in the $30 million range annually, indicating a significant investment for any franchise.
Amid the confusion, a strong statement suggests that Turner will ultimately resign with the Indian Pacers.“One area, it seems, that Detroit is evaluating in earnest is the big man market. Marc Stein previously mentioned Naz Reid as a likely target for Detroit. Add Turner to that list,” Jake Fisher said on the Substack.

The Pistons already have a good young center named Jalen Duren, who is 21 and has a double-double average for two years. But it seems the Pistons want a center who can shoot better, which Turner does well.
Detroit Pistons Eyes On Big Names

Detroit is not just looking at Myles Turner for their center spot. Jake Fisher also reported that the Pistons are seriously considering many big names who will be free agents. Before, Marc Stein said the Pistons might try to get Nez Reid from the Minnesota Timberwolves, and now Fisher says Reid is still on their list. They might also go after Santi Aldama, a restricted free agent from the Memphis Grizzlies.

“I’ve also heard that the Grizzlies and other teams believe the Pistons could emerge as a possible threat to pursue restricted free agent Santi Aldama as well,” Fisher said.
The Pistons have a large budget to spend on new players and good contracts, draft picks, and young players that could help them acquire top talent. This gives them an advantage over teams like the Golden State Warriors, who also need an intense center. The Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers want to add big men, so this summer’s free agency will create excitement for players who play close to the basket.
