The Golden State Warriors have never shied away from making bold roster moves in pursuit of another championship. Last season, they made headlines by acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat in hopes of pairing him with franchise cornerstone Stephen Curry to make another title run. However, despite the high-profile move, the season ended without a trophy once again.
As the 2024 NBA offseason kicks off, the Warriors are wasting no time identifying and pursuing the pieces they believe can help restore their title hopes. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, Golden State is now setting its sights on elite perimeter defense.

“Payton will become an unrestricted free agent on Monday, and his return to Golden State is in serious jeopardy, multiple NBA sources told NBC Sports Bay Area on Friday and Saturday,” Poole reported.
Payton played 62 regular-season games for the Warriors during the 2024–25 season. His role was often limited to key defensive games, but he remained a reliable contributor. He averaged 6.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game last season.
