The New York Knicks’ 2024-25 season ended in disappointment, as the team fell short of reaching the NBA Finals once again. Despite the progress made and the excitement surrounding their deepest playoff run in over two decades, the Knicks couldn’t get past the Eastern Conference Finals. It marked another year without a championship since their last title in 1973.
However, the franchise is wasting no time moving forward. With the season behind them, the Knicks have already shifted their focus toward building for next year. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the front office is gearing up for a crucial offseason that could bring significant changes.
“I’m told the Knicks have internal meetings this week to evaluate everything from the roster to different changes they could make around everything, but especially the roster. Jalen Brunson & front office fully supportive of Tom Thibodeau, but I do expect them to be very active & aggressive on the roster,” Charania said.

“Whether it’s a landmark player that you could bring in there or definitely depth on that bench,” he added.
This past season, the Knicks finished with a 51-31 record. Their effort carried them to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. But they ultimately fell short of their championship dreams. The team now faces the challenge of preserving its core identity while making the necessary upgrades to contend with the NBA’s elite.

The Knicks have made it clear that head coach Tom Thibodeau will return for the 2025-26 season. Following the Game 6 loss, Jalen Brunson was asked about Thibodeau’s future and whether he still believed in his coach. Brunson responded without hesitation, clearly taken aback by the question.
“Is that a real question right now? You just asked me if I believe he’s the right guy. Yes. Come on,” Brunson said.
Since joining the franchise in 2020, Thibodeau has led the team to four playoff appearances. Under his wings, the Knicks have broken a seven-year postseason drought.
