Giannis Antetokounmpo may still be under contract with the Milwaukee Bucks through the 2026–27 NBA season. But that hasn’t stopped the trade rumors from heating up. Ever since the Bucks’ championship hopes ended abruptly this past season, speculation surrounding the future of their franchise cornerstone has intensified.
One team that reportedly took initiative was the San Antonio Spurs. According to a report by Chris Davis, the Spurs reached out to gauge Milwaukee’s willingness to trade the two-time MVP. However, Milwaukee has no plans to part ways with Giannis unless the offer is absolutely overwhelming.
Sources reveal that the Bucks demanded a massive package from the Spurs in exchange for Antetokounmpo. Milwaukee’s asking price reportedly included Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan, and the coveted No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. On top of that, the Bucks wanted San Antonio to send them the Atlanta Hawks’ future first-rounders, which the Spurs currently control, along with five additional first-round picks.
🚨 Report: When the San Antonio Spurs inquired about Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks reportedly set a steep asking price for the two-time MVP. According to sources, the Bucks demanded:
— Cris Davis (@CrisDavisReport) June 18, 2025
🏀 Stephon Castle
🏀 Devin Vassell
🏀 Jeremy Sochan
🏀 2025 No. 2 overall…
By setting the bar this high, the Bucks essentially sent a message to the rest of the league that they’re not actively shopping Giannis. But if a team dares to ask, it better be ready to give up everything.
The Spurs are in the early stages of building a long-term contender around Victor Wembanyama. Hence, the demand was too steep. Trading away young cornerstone players and a trove of draft assets would have significantly compromised their future flexibility. As a result, San Antonio was stunned and reportedly backed away from serious pursuit.

During his appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers reacted to the ongoing speculation around Giannis Antetokounmpo. Rivers strongly dismissed the swirling trade rumors involving Antetokounmpo.
“It’s so ridiculous and you know it’s not true. I don’t know how many times Giannis has to say I want to win a title with the Bucks. This is the best time to win a title in the NBA, there’s no dominant team,” Rivers said.
Giannis himself also recently addressed the trade rumors directly. Rather than fueling speculation, the two-time MVP made it clear that he intends to continue chasing a championship with the Bucks.
