Usually, when a team wants to trade someone like Kevin Durant, it comes with a huge financial incentive. But in the case of the Phoenix Suns, that is not the case. While it is clear that Kevin Durant will be looking for a fresh start, the leverage for the Suns is significantly low. And thus, NBA insider Brian Windhorst has a wild theory. What if Kevin Durant does not change jerseys after all?
In a recent statement, Windhorst stated that the Suns might face a problem in trading Durant. This is his last year in the NBA, and he will not be signing a contract extension with any of the teams. Thus, Windhorst opined that the Suns might not want to trade him after all.
“I would not rule out the Suns not being able to get a trade they like and having to make a decision—like, do we not trade him at all?” said Windhorst.

Now, Windhorst has a point here. Recently, the San Antonio Spurs showed interest in acquiring Durant. However, they have shown significant disinterest in paying a hefty sum of money to the Suns. And not only the Spurs, but a number of other teams too, have followed the same narrative. Meanwhile, despite all the negatives, there are still some teams that are interested in Durant.
Toronto Raptors Might Rope In Kevin Durant

The possibilities for a Kevin Durant trade are looking endless. Every other day, new trade rumors are emerging. And likewise, the Toronto Raptors have jumped into the race. According to recent report from Mark Fischer of ‘The Stein Line,’ the Raptors are open to getting Durant in exchange for their 2025 draft pick.

“The Raptors’ No. 9 pick is also increasingly viewed as perhaps the most likely top-10 pick in the draft to be traded. My sense is that Toronto would prefer to simply trade down rather than trade out of the first-round completely. Perhaps there is some swap potential in a deal with Phoenix and the Suns’ No. 29 overall selection,” Fischer wrote.
