Following a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, it appears that the partnership between Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns is nearing its end. The franchise is actively looking to reclaim control over its future by putting Durant on the trade block. Meanwhile, Durant himself is seeking a destination where he can once again thrive at a high level.
In the midst of trade discussions, the Suns are said to be laser-focused on solving a long-standing issue at the center position. According to Hardwood Paroxysm, the Suns have made it clear that acquiring a capable big man is their top priority in any potential Kevin Durant trade.
“The Suns have indicated to teams that center is at a premium for them in any KD talks. He might stick around, but their biggest interest is in solving the center position, which has been a disaster since moving on from Ayton,” the report read.

Phoenix might trade KD by the time of the upcoming NBA Draft. Earlier in the season, both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors made efforts to land Durant before the February trade deadline. However, negotiations didn’t come to fruition. Later, the Warriors shifted gears and acquired Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat instead.

“One league source told Hoops Wire not to be surprised if the Hawks get involved in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. While they have yet to hire a president of basketball operations, team ownership has already inquired internally about Durant, sources said,” the report read.
Kevin Durant originally joined the Phoenix Suns midway through the 2022-23 season. Now, just two and a half seasons later, he appears set to move on again. If traded, this would mark the fifth team of his NBA career.
