The Phoenix Suns are reportedly working quickly to find a trade partner for Kevin Durant. While a few potential teams have been consistently mentioned in connection with Durant’s next move, the Toronto Raptors have rarely been among the frontrunners.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Raptors are quietly emerging as a wild card in the Durant sweepstakes. Speaking on the latest episode of the All-NBA Podcast, Stein revealed that Toronto may be willing to take a bold approach.
“There are teams out there saying, ‘You know what? We know he’s only under contract for one more year at about $55 million; we’re willing to gamble on him,’ and the Toronto Raptors are one of those teams,” Stein said.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Shams Charania recently reported that Durant’s preferred landing spots are the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets. However, The Athletic offered a slightly narrowed list. They stated that Durant has specifically identified only the Spurs and Rockets as his top two choices.
Despite San Antonio being one of Durant’s favored destinations, trade talks with the Spurs have reportedly hit a snag. According to recent reports, the Suns are not impressed with what San Antonio has put on the table so far. Phoenix is believed to be holding out for a more appealing deal. They continue to evaluate the best possible return for their 15-time All-Star.

The Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns have been engaged in trade discussions centered around Kevin Durant for over a year, according to a new report. According to NBA insider Kelly Iko, forward Jabari Smith Jr. has recently come up in trade talks involving the Suns.
“Recently forward Jabari Smith Jr.’ s name has come up pertaining to the Suns’ interest, team snd league source say. But the Rockets have largely been uninterested in breaking up their depth,” the report read.
Durant is entering the final guaranteed year of his contract with the Suns, which runs through the 2025–26 season. Though his list of preferred destinations has reportedly included teams like the Spurs and Rockets, the outcome of this trade saga hinges on whether a team is willing to meet Phoenix’s steep asking price.
