The Washington Wizards are entering the 2025 NBA Draft with urgency after a disastrous 2024-25 season. The season saw them finish with an 18-64 record that was the second-worst in the entire league. Now, holding the No. 6 and No. 18 picks in the upcoming draft, the team appears ready to shake up its roster in pursuit of long-term stability at point guard.
According to NBA insider Grant Afseth, the Wizards are making an aggressive push to trade up to the No. 2 overall pick. In his report, Afseth revealed that Washington has already made multiple offers to teams drafting in the top five, especially in hopes of acquiring the San Antonio Spurs’ No. 2 pick.
“Washington has made multiple offers to teams in the top five in an effort to land either Dylan Harper or Jeremiah Fears, even being willing to part with surprising names to move up to No. 2 overall,” the report stated.

Afseth didn’t specify which players the Wizards are willing to part with. But the phrase “surprising names” has sparked speculation across the league. This suggests the front office is prepared to move even key contributors or recent acquisitions to secure a foundational piece for the franchise’s future.
So far, the Wizards’ attempts to move up have not borne fruit. The San Antonio Spurs, who currently hold the No. 2 pick, reportedly turned down offers from both Washington and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Afseth reported that Washington’s primary goal is to find stability at the point guard position. With no guarantee that Harper or Fears will be available at pick No. 6, the Wizards have done their homework on other prospects expected to be on the board at No. 18.
“In the event none of their preferred options are available at No. 6, the Wizards have also conducted significant due diligence on point guard prospects projected to be available at No. 18, sources told RG,” Afseth reported.
Interestingly, the Wizards already have five point guards on their current roster, including Jordan Poole, Marcus Smart, AJ Johnson, Malcolm Brogdon, and Carlton Carrington. However, the front office appears unsatisfied with the current group’s long-term upside and cohesion. The Wizards are willing to reset the position entirely in hopes of finally securing long-term success.
