The Phoenix Suns are set to begin the upcoming NBA Draft with the No. 10 overall pick. With this position in mind, the franchise is actively seeking to offload Kevin Durant to help reestablish their draft flexibility. To facilitate a trade, the Suns have reportedly reduced their initial demands.
According to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, the Houston Rockets have emerged as a serious suitor for Durant. They are making an aggressive push to acquire the veteran forward.
“Phoenix is aggressive in pursuit of a) trading Kevin Durant and b) regaining full control of their draft capital starting with the No. 10 pick in next month’s draft, team sources said. Since the conclusion of the season, Houston has fielded several calls from Phoenix, who have since gradually lowered their asking price for Durant, those sources said,” the report read.

However, there remains skepticism within the Rockets organization about committing to a trade for the 36-year-old Durant. While there is reported interest at the right price point, concerns over Durant’s recent injury history and the potential cost of dismantling Houston’s promising young core are major roadblocks to a deal.
“There is a price where the Rockets would be interested, but with a fear of breaking up their roster for a 36-year-old coming off injury, doubt remains over a deal materializing,” Kelly added.

Recently, Yahoo Sports floated a blockbuster trade centered around Kevin Durant that would send the former MVP to the New York Knicks. The trade scenario also ropes in the Washington Wizards and appears designed to shake up multiple rosters.

According to the hypothetical deal presented, the New York Knicks would acquire Kevin Durant along with big man Richaun Holmes. In exchange, the Phoenix Suns would receive Karl-Anthony Towns and a first-round pick swap with the Knicks in 2030. The Washington Wizards would come away with Miles McBride, Josh Hart, and a top-eight protected 2026 first-round pick.
However, the proposed deal raises serious questions about the Knicks’ decision-making. Giving up two promising contributors in Josh Hart and Miles McBride, along with a future first-round pick, seems excessive for acquiring an aged Durant, who has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.
