NBA free agency officially opened Tuesday. Several big names have already found new homes. Yet, Boston Celtics veteran Al Horford remains one of the top unsigned players. The 39-year-old is still undecided about his next destination, but the race for his signature is heating up fast.
According to recent reports, six teams are in the mix for Horford’s services. The buzz include the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and now the Denver Nuggets. NBA insider Evan Sidery revealed that Denver is expected to make a surprising late push to secure Horford in free agency.
“With the Nuggets now once again without a backup center, they are widely expected to pivot to pursuing Al Horford in free agency. The Warriors and Lakers are the only teams currently in the Horford sweepstakes, but Denver would instantly offer him an important rotation role,” Sidery wrote.

The Nuggets’ sudden interest comes at a crucial time. Earlier this week, Denver reached an agreement to acquire Jonas Valanciunas from the Sacramento Kings. However, Valanciunas is reportedly considering a buyout and may head overseas to play in Greece.

“All signs, for the record, continue to point to Al Horford landing with Golden State … eventually. Sunday will be the first day of the 2025-26 salary cap year that NBA teams can make most free agent signings and trades official,” the report read.
Horford just wrapped up a two-year, $19.5 million deal with the Celtics. Despite his age, he remained a productive presence off the bench. He averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game last season. Horford’s leadership, playoff experience, and versatility continue to make him a sought-after asset for contending teams.
