Chris Paul is facing a big decision. The 12-time All-Star and the future Hall of Famer just finished his 20th NBA season, showing he can still contribute at a high level. Playing with the San Antonio Spurs during the 2024-25 season, the 40-year-old proved that age did not affect his impact on the court.
According to league insiders, several playoff teams are expected to pursue Paul this offseason. Despite being one of the oldest players in the league, his experience, leadership, and court vision make him a valuable asset. However, Paul made it clear in a recent appearance on The McAfee Show that his next decision will depend on personal matters rather than basketball.
“It’s with my family more than anything. My son just turned 16. My daughter is 12. The past six seasons, I’ve lived without them. It’s a little different. That’s the conversation,” the Spurs star said. Paul explained how difficult it was to live apart from his family while playing in cities like Phoenix, Golden State, Oklahoma City, and San Antonio.

“It’s with my family more than anything… I talk to my family about it. My son just turned 16. My daughter is 12. The past 6 seasons, I’ve lived without them… I want to hoop… But at the same time, I want to be dad.”pic.twitter.com/KyI4JSScfi
The 40-year-old point guard can keep playing with his physicality, but his priorities are shifting toward home. As free agency approaches, fans and teams are watching closely to see what Paul decides next.
Chris Paul’s Next Move: Prioritizing Personal Affairs

Pail said he doesn’t plan to play “for a while” longer, even though he’s still in the gym daily. He talked about working out with his daughter, who recently picked up a basketball. “I flew out here, and I was in the gym with her for 20 minutes. With kids, sometimes you gotta do short sessions, so I was in 20 minutes doing ball handling with her, and it was priceless,” he shared.

His words suggest that being near his family will majorly affect his free agency decision. Teams close to his home or those willing to support his desire to stay a present father could become front-runners. As teams prepare for the offseason, Chris Paul remains one of the most respected names on the market. But this time, his decision might be about more than just his profession.
