The Denver Nuggets entered Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder with hopes of advancing to the Western Conference Finals. After tying the series 3-3, momentum seemed possible. But those hopes were crushed in a 125-93 defeat that ended their playoff run and brought Russell Westbrook’s first season in Denver to a disappointing close.
Now the attention turns to Westbrook’s future with the team. The veteran guard has a player option that allows him to opt out of the final year of his current contract this summer.
After Game 7, when asked after the loss if Russ had made a decision regarding that option, he avoided a direct answer. Westbrook then glanced at his watch and then turned the question around on the reporter.
“What are you wearing tomorrow?” he asked.
When the reporter responded that he didn’t know, Westbrook replied, “Exactly,” and walked off.

Russell Westbrook’s Stats With Denver In His First Season

In his first season wearing a Denver jersey, Russell Westbrook averaged 13.1 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game in roughly 27 minutes of play. He brought flashes of energy and leadership but often struggled with consistency and efficiency throughout the year.
Over the course of the Thunder vs. Nuggets series, Westbrook’s struggles became more evident. On Sunday, Westbrook finished Game 7 with just six points on 2-of-7 shooting. He added five rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes, but the effort was not enough to impact the game or reverse Denver’s fortunes.
Russ finished the series averaging 9.9 points per game, shooting 34.8 percent from the field and 21.9 percent from three-point range. He also averaged 2.4 assists and 2.6 turnovers per game.
