LaMelo Ball is fresh off the best season of his young NBA career with the Charlotte Hornets. Ball’s on-court brilliance continued to shine as a beacon of hope for the struggling franchise. Since entering the league, Ball has quickly become the face of the team.
Despite his growing reputation, not everyone in the NBA world sees Charlotte as an ideal destination, especially when it comes to playing alongside Ball. A top draft prospect recently declined a workout with the Hornets due to LaMelo. Speaking on his podcast, Zach Lowe revealed some agents are advising their clients to steer clear of Charlotte due to concerns about fit with Ball.
“That Charlotte/Utah double at four-five, you have agents looking who look at those situations wildly differently. You have some agents who are like, ‘I don’t know if I want to have my guy next to LaMelo Ball,” Lowe said.

“I just don’t know if that’s a good fit for us.’ And yet, new ownership, new front office, that franchise is kind of doing everything else right,” he added.
Chris Broussard Questions LaMelo Ball’s Commitment To Winning Amid Hornets’ Struggles

The Hornets managed just 19 regular-season wins in the 2024-25 season. Despite Ball’s individual brilliance, concerns are growing about whether he’s truly focused on team success. During a recent episode of First Things First, analyst Chris Broussard did not hold back when discussing Ball’s impact and mindset.

“I was pleading for LaMelo to start wanting to play winning basketball, but I don’t think he cares about winning,” Broussard said.
This criticism comes despite Ball’s strong personal statistics. He averaged 25.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game this season. In Charlotte, where wins have been scarce, achieving more as a team, not just individually, may be the only way for Ball to reshape the narrative around his career.
