Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is having a dream run this season. With the Oklahoma City Thunder leading the finals 3-2, Gilgeous-Alexander is already the NBA MVP for this year. Unfortunately, despite all the shining accolades, Gilgeous-Alexander has also gotten the stick. And while he has been nicknamed as the ‘free throw merchant,’ his father recently came to his aid.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has received backlash for being able to earn fouls at the free throw line. The fans opined that while the calls could have been 50-50, every time the call went in his favor. Now, coming to his son’s support, Vaughn Alexander opened up about his take on the matter. He emphasized that the game of basketball has rules. And any illegal contacts made will definitely result in a foul.
“I’ve mentioned this about 400 times, here goes 401. At the end of the day, basketball is a game that has rules, right? And some of the rules are that you can’t– if you get caught out of position, you can’t stick your hand out. You can’t touch people, can’t foul, and if I know that and I’m playing the game, I’m going to play the game by the rules, right?” said Vaughn Alexander.
He also went on to say that if any player gets hit in the ear, shoulder, or feet, the officials will call it a foul. And there’s nothing awkward in it. Meanwhile, sidestepping all the noise, Gilgeous-Alexander has joined Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic in a major milestone.
