Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished his recent season as the greatest player in the NBA. After holding the NBA title, especially as a final MVP, he is now considered a valuable and demanding figure in the NBA world. He led the Thunder to their first title since the team moved from Seattle, and now he is being offered a massive amount by the Thunder itself.
Gilgeous-Alexander signed the richest deal in NBA history by average annual salary. He extended his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder for four years, worth $285 million. The figure shows he will get $71.25 million annually, which crossed the Steve Nash record of a five-year deal worth $65.6 million in 2004. Shai will earn nearly the same amount in 2027 in just one season.

Shai, you can mark down 34 points before they even get on the plane tomorrow for the next game,” said Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle during the finals.
Thunder president Sam Presti believed in Gilgeous-Alexander from the beginning. He stuck with him through the team’s foundation. His trust paid off. “[Sam was] honest and upfront with me from day one,” Shai said. “He seemed like a guy I could trust. He’s been that. I try to be the same back to him.”
The amount highlights how desperately the Thunder want him on the team. His milestones have already included him in the elite group of NBA legends, and now he is making huge numbers, so the expectations will be higher for the big man next season.
