The Memphis Grizzlies made waves by trading Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for a massive haul: four first-round picks, a pick swap, Cole Anthony, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. At the same time, Bane made the All-Star team. The return signals Memphis may be preparing for something bigger, possibly a future reset.
This Move shocked many around the league, as Bane was widely seen as a foundational piece next to Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. Instead, the Grizzlies pulled the trigger, sparking speculation that more drastic moves could follow. With three disappointing seasons and a new coach in Tuomas Lisalo, the franchise is considering a fresh start instead of sticking with the same plan.
Despite this, reports indicate Memphis is not committed to rebuilding just yet. The front office reportedly wants to keep Morant and Jackson Jr. and build from there. However, with Jackson entering the final year of his deal and unsure about staying, the team may need to think hard about the next move.
Will Jaren Jackson Jr. The Next Target For Memphis Grizzlies?

The Bane trade might remain the start if Jackson leaves for nothing in free agency next summer. One possible trade could send Jackson to the Philadelphia 76ers for veteran contracts and several first-round picks, including the No.3 pick in this year’s draft. With Joel Embiid coming off another injury-filled season, Philadelphia may not want to wait for a young player like Ace Bailey to grow. Adding Jackson could help them win now with Embiid and Paul George.
Another option is the San Antonio Spurs. If the Spurs don’t land Kevin Durant, they might go after Jackson instead. Putting him next to Victor Wembanyama would give them a strong defensive frontcourt. In return, the Memphis Grizzlies could bring in young talent like Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sichan, and future picks, setting the stage for a full rebuild.
If the Memphis Grizzlies make this move, it could signal a significant shift for the team. Ja Morant might be the best option. Memphis has choices to make. The only question is how far they are willing to go.
