The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers went on a historic run in the 2025 NBA Finals. Yet, Gilbert Arenas found it of little significance as both of them were smaller market teams.
During his recent feature on The Dan Patrick Show, Arenas shared his thoughts on how everyone would soon forget who won the ring this year.
“Nothing. We won’t remember it. Let’s just be honest. When it comes to small-market teams, we don’t remember much about them. We don’t really talk about the Toronto championship, we don’t talk about the Bucks-Giannis championship. With this one, the only memorable thing was the Hali game-winner in Game 1. Other than that, there was nothing really in this Finals that makes you say, ‘Oh my god, this was the great Finals,’” the former NBA star said.

According to Arenas, championships from small-market teams often fade from our collective memory. He also pointed out how we rarely discuss the Toronto Raptors’ or Milwaukee Bucks’ titles.
Although he might not be completely right with his assessment, the game has evolved to a whole new level from when he was in the league. And like most of the fans, the ones on social media are far from satisfied with Gil’s comment.

While Arenas thinks Tyrese Haliburton’s game-winner in Game 1 was the best thing, that’s not just true. In addition to the Pacers star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander went on a historic run till the final to win all major individual awards.
And there were many such big small moments, fans on the internet are giving Arenas a run for his money over his recent diss.
“Gilbert Arenas has more felonies than NBA titles,” a fan commented.

Despite all of this back-and-forth, the 2025 NBA Finals will be remembered for a good long time. Not only for Haliburton’s heroics, but for Shai’s dream run, and both teams being rosters full of great young players.
