There has been plenty said about the New York Knicks, but none like Stephen A. Smith’s latest comments on the team’s star player. 

The ESPN analyst has long been taking a ranting route every time the Knicks made any changes to the roster. Be it firing head coach Tom Thibodeau or making a historic run to the playoffs, Smith was there every time. 

However, his latest blunder seems to haunt him for a long, long time. During a recent segment of SportsCenter, an amped-up Stephen A. shared his excitement about the Knicks’ latest coaching hire.

While mending his words for how wonderful the next season for the Knicks would be, he accidentally labelled Deuce McBride as “Michael McBride.” 

“You’re talking about Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Mitchell Robinson, Michael McBride, Josh Hart,” Stephen A. Smith said.

Though he was not present in the studio, his phone call feature had gone terribly wrong. A fan on X (formerly Twitter) called him a “fake Knicks fan” for his blunder. Soon after the video went viral, reactions from the internet fans came sailing towards the long-time commentator.

While he might be in his usual flow during the phone call, Stephen A. Smith seems to catch a stray with the social media fans every now and then. And when they caught him in an embarrassing moment, a major backlash was almost guaranteed.

“hands down the worst fake fan of any team sport,” a fan commented.

“Fan favorite, Michael McBride…” another fan wrote.

“Michael McBride is a helluva player,” a third fan added.

“The Joe Biden of Knicks fans,” a fourth fan said.

“I’ve seen Michael McBride play before!!!” another fan quipped.

“Michael McBride???? WHOOOOO???” a surprised fan added.

Just like Stephen A., the social media fans never miss a chance to bring a mistake down. It would be interesting to see when Smith will be back in the studio and address the outcry.
