Kevin Durant’s time in Phoenix appears to be nearing its end. Multiple reports suggest the 15-time All-Star is expected to leave the Suns this offseason. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Durant has expressed strong interest in joining three NBA teams. The teams are the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets.
Despite Durant’s openness to San Antonio, a report from Jake L. Fischer of Yahoo Sports suggests the Phoenix Suns are unwilling to engage in a deal with the Spurs. Fischer explained that the Suns are simply “not enamored” with the trade packages the Spurs have offered so far.
“Sources add that Phoenix is not enamored with the players San Antonio has made available in the teams’ talks to date. It is obviously presumed that Durant would relish the opportunity to play alongside Victor Wembanyama, but it is also believed that the Spurs are only willing to discuss veterans such as Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and Harrison Barnes,” Fischer wrote.

Fischer further elaborated that San Antonio has drawn a clear line when it comes to their prized young assets.
“The Spurs just managed to acquire De’Aaron Fox from Sacramento largely on their terms and the notion now of surrendering newly named Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle or the No. 2 selection in this month’s draft is simply a non-starter,” he added.

Among the rumored suitors, the Minnesota Timberwolves also have emerged as a potential destination for Kevin Durant. However, any possible deal with Minnesota already faces a major roadblock. According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, the Timberwolves have made it clear that forward Jaden McDaniels is untouchable in any trade discussions involving Durant.
“The Wolves are not including Jaden McDaniels in any KD trade talks, per team sources, which means that one of Randle or Rudy Gobert would have to be the primary salary eater in the deal,” Krawcynski wrote.
This isn’t the first time Durant has been close to a move. At the February trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors nearly brought him back for a second stint. However, Durant turned down the idea, stating he wanted to finish the season in Phoenix.
