The Dallas Mavericks’ decision to trade Luka Doncic in February still haunts the team even after the season ended. Many explanations have been offered, but everyone believes the main one is that Mavs general manager Nico Harrison wants to move away from Doncic. But it appears that Coach Jason Kidd may have also played a part.
Tim MacMahon of ESPN, who revealed on ‘The Right Time with Bomani Jones’ that coach Kidd shared Harrison’s issues with Doncic, is perhaps the greatest source on everything related to Doncic or the Mavericks.
Tim stated, “The level of frustration that Nico had [with Luka] at the time was high. By the way, J-Kidd’s was too. I think J-Kidd’s tried to distance himself from it, but J-Kidd’s frustration with Luka was also quite high.”
The Mavericks’ trade is the only topic of conversation, even though their season has ended. Even the Houston Rockets’ owner and President Donald Trump are making fun of their choice. The Mavericks have had the worst conceivable outcome from this transaction, among the most unexpected in NBA history.
It was a crazy decision then, and it seems to worsen every minute. Luka Doncic is on the road to winning his first-ever Championship with the Lakers.

Luka Doncic came back to Dallas as a conqueror. Doncic dominated the Dallas Mavericks with 45 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals in what he dubbed the “top one” performance of his career. The Los Angeles Lakers won 112-97 and exacted personal retribution on the team that had traded him only two months before.
After the game, Doncic was still feeling the effects of the evening in an exclusive interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews. He responded quickly when asked how he would rank his return game.
Luka claims. “I would say top one just cuz it was so special, with the fans, with teammates just being there. It was something I never seen in my life, and it was just special, the love between me and the fans…”
Doncic didn’t minimize the emotional impact of the evening, particularly after the Mavericks honored him with a tearful pregame tribute film. The Lakers will be hoping Doncic can maintain this emotional high and deliver another masterpiece when it counts most, as they travel to Minnesota for a crucial Game 3 matchup against the Timberwolves.
