The San Antonio Spurs officially welcomed Dylan Harper into their talented young core on Wednesday night. They selected the Rutgers standout with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Harper is the first player in this year’s draft class whose father, Ron Harper, also played in the NBA, including a brief stint with the Spurs.
Harper was clearly excited about joining the Spurs and jumped on a call with Wembanyama right after the draft. With a wide smile and youthful energy, Harper began the conversation by introducing himself in the most relatable way possible.
“My name’s Dylan. I just got drafted to the Spurs. I think I’m your teammate now. Man, we lit, man. This is gonna be fun. Hell yeah. Now we gonna watch this shit, man,” Dylan said.

“Appreciate it. See you later. Celebrate tonight. I got you, man. You know what you’re looking for? Yeah. In and out. Rest a little bit and we go back. And then we gonna get back to work, man,” Wemby replied.
“Hell yeah. For sure, man. I’m gonna catch you later,” Dylan added.
Harper joins an exciting and deep Spurs roster that includes rising stars like Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, Julian Champagnie, Devin Vassell, and Harrison Barnes. With a blend of youth, talent, and leadership, San Antonio is building one of the most promising cores in the NBA.

Dylan Harper’s Rookie Contract Surpasses Father’s Entire NBA Career Earnings

The NBA landscape has changed dramatically over the years, not just on the court, but in the bank accounts of its players. A prime example of this shift is evident in the story of Dylan Harper and his father.
Dylan is expected to sign a rookie contract valued at $56 million. That number alone is enough to turn heads. But it becomes even more striking when compared to what his father earned over an entire NBA career.
Ron Harper played 15 seasons in the league and won five championships with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. During his career, he amassed a total of $35 million in career earnings. The younger Harper’s deal reflects the NBA’s booming revenue, increased salary cap, and the league’s aggressive investment in young stars.
