The Minnesota Timberwolves found themselves overwhelmed in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder. On Tuesday night at the Paycom Center, the Thunder rolled to a 114-88 victory, seizing a 1-0 series lead and putting the Wolves on notice.
While the loss stung for Minnesota fans, a surprising moment in the postgame press conference caught attention. Despite the defeat, Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle laughed and chatted when Edwards showed Randle the final box score. Their attitude didn’t seem to reflect the heavy loss the team had just taken on the court.

The Timberwolves managed to keep the contest competitive early, but the second half told a different story. Oklahoma City completely flipped the script, outscoring Minnesota 70–40 after halftime. The Thunder’s defensive intensity and offensive flow overwhelmed the Timberwolves, who couldn’t recover in time to close the gap.
Still, Julius Randle stood out as a bright spot for Minnesota. The veteran forward finished with 28 points and eight rebounds. Edwards contributed 18 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Not a single Wolves player could score more than ten points.
Anthony Edwards Acknowledges He Needs To Step Up

After the game, Anthony Edwards was honest and direct about his shortcomings in the opening matchup. Speaking to reporters, he made it clear that adjustments are on the way for Game 2, and he wasn’t shy about using a little colorful language to share his point.

“I’ve definitely got to shoot more. I only took 13 f—— shots. Probably just get off the ball a little more. Play without the ball. I think that will be the answer, because playing on the ball, they’re just going to double and sit in the gaps all day. We’ve gotta go watch some film and pick it apart. We’ll figure it out,” Edwards said.
The Timberwolves will get a chance to bounce back when they face the Thunder again on Thursday night. With a reenergized mindset and Edwards’s promising changes, Minnesota hopes to even the series and reclaim control before it slips too far away.
